Opening workshop of the Hamburg-Vigoni Forum at Villa VigoniEUROPE: Identity and Sovereignty

The first workshop of the Hamburg-Vigoni Forum took place at Villa Vigoni in Menaggio from October 16-18, 2021. The in-person event lasted three days and marked the start of the seven-year conference series, which focuses on the key question "What holds Europe together?".
Francesco Papadia, former Director General of the ECB and Senior Fellow at Bruegel, opened the event with a keynote speech. The participants then discussed the content in two panels, in which the topoi of identity and sovereignty were jointly explored, contoured and contextualized.
Prof. Dr. Jörg Philipp Terhechte from Leuphana University Lüneburg and, from the University of Hamburg, Prof. em. Dr. Gabriele Clemens, Prof. Dr. Armin Hatje, Prof. Dr. Cord Jakobeit, Prof. Dr. Ursula Schröder and Prof. Dr. Markus Kotzur, the academic director of the format, took part in a moderating role.

Prof. Dr. phil. habil. Michael Gehler from the University of Hildesheim, Prof. Dr. Eva Heidbreder from Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg and Prof. Dr. Kirsten Schmalenbach from Paris Lodron University Salzburg enriched the discussions with instructive keynote speeches. The panels were completed by Prof. Dr. Tilman Repgen and Christian Friess from the University of Hamburg, Dr. Deborah Cuccia from the University of Hildesheim, Martin Lieberich from the Europa-Kolleg Hamburg as well as Dr. Christiane Liermann Traniello and Dr. Roberto Luppi from Villa Vigoni.
