How and what holds Europe together? The Latvian President H.E. Egils Levits addressed this guiding question in the atrium of the University of Hamburg on 28 April 2024. In this short video, you can see some key points from his speech and the subsequent panel discussion.

When asked what he believes is holding Europe together, the Latvian President and University alumnus gave a clear answer: "The values are the axiomatic, unquestionable categories on which the legal system and the political system are founded". The Ukrainian Ambassador H.E. Oleksii Makeiev also saw values as being of crucial importance for the European sense of community, which was demonstrated in the solidarity with his country. According to Ambassador Makeiev, Europe has never been so united in defence of its country and European values.
