First workshop at Villa Vigoni - Identity and Sovereignty
The first workshop of the Hamburg-Vigoni Forum took place at Villa Vigoni in Menaggio from October 16-18, 2021. The in-person event lasted three days and marked the start of the seven-year conference series, which focuses on the key question "What holds Europe together?".
Francesco Papadia, former Director General of the ECB and Senior Fellow at Bruegel, opened the event with a keynote speech. The participants then discussed the content in two panels, in which the topoi of identity and sovereignty were jointly explored, contoured and contextualized.
Participating in a moderating role were Prof. Dr. Jörg Philipp Terhechte from Leuphana University Lüneburg and, from the University of Hamburg, Prof. em. Dr. Gabriele Clemens, Prof. Dr. Armin Hatje, Prof. Dr. Cord Jakobeit, Prof. Dr. Ursula Schröder and Prof. Dr. Markus Kotzur, the scientific director of the format.
Gehler from the University of Hildesheim, Professor Dr. Eva Heidbreder from Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg and Professor Dr. Kirsten Schmalenbach from Paris Lodron University Salzburg enriched the discussions with instructive keynote speeches. The panels were completed by Professor Dr. Tilman Repgen and Christian Friess from the University of Hamburg, Dr. Deborah Cuccia from the University of Hildesheim, Martin Lieberich from the Europa-Kolleg Hamburg and Dr. Christiane Liermann Traniello and Dr. Roberto Luppi from Villa Vigoni.
The substantive results of the productive and constructive discussions were published in German as the first edition of a series of notes from the Hamburg-Vigoni Forum: "Impulse des Hamburg-Vigoni Forums für eine europapolitische Zukunftsagenda".
