In a historically unique document at the European summit in Copenhagen in 1973, the heads of state and government of the member states of the European Community reaffirmed their will to incorporate the concept of European identity into their common external relations.
To celebrate its 50th anniversary, the context and impact of the document will be discussed at an international conference entitled "50 Years Copenhagen Declaration 1973-2023 - Historical questions of European Identity". The conference will take place from May 30 to June 1, 2024 at the Europa-Kolleg Hamburg in cooperation with the Institute of History of the University of Hildesheim.
